I wonder if these butternut squash will ripen like the green San Marzano tomotoes I ripened on the window sill?
They are not at all like the buttery shop varieties. The books I've read all talk about letting the squashes ripen in the sun on the vine. What are the chances of these unripe looking fruits ripening indoors?
I can't tell much from the photo John, but they seem a bit immature to ever fully ripen. You might want to try again next season with some black plastic mulch?
---Steven, just got back from the weekend and they've started to rot off. Next season I'll get them out much earlier and maybe I'll try the mulch trick to warm them

I'm curious to know if the squash will ripen in the window. Hmmm...
---As I said to Steven some have started to rot! We'll see about the rest!

Just for the future, try putting them next to ripe bananas as the fruit produce a gas called ethylene which helps to ripen other things, particularly our late toms.
---I'll try that!
