Guest appearances on the table in the last week included Hamamelis or witch hazel pictured left. This one hasn't the spidery flowers I usually think off with witch hazel. They're short and tinged with a claret centre - 'Brevipetala' perhaps? The fragrance is sweet and mild, the sort you have to search for in the garden to find out where it's coming from. The Pyracantha on the right (savage spines - blood was shed cutting this) picks up the Christmas colour theme as does the Acuba below.
