Butternut squash is one of my favorites. I will be interested in seeing if you grow some next year and how they do. I would love to try growing them, but I'm afraid I don't have enough space in our tiny plot. Potentially too much vine growth for only a few squash. And here in Washington DC they are relatively inexpensive to buy.

I am really missing butternuts this year as mine failed. You're right, they're such a boon to grow. They're right back on my list, too ...

We have a lot of difficulty getting butternuts here in Holland. The supermarkets only recently started stocking them, sometimes, and most of you have to go to an organic shop to get them.

I have 8 plants on my windowsill, accompanied by 8 gemsquash plants. There will have to be some very inventive space planning to get them all into my allotment.
