We've just returned from Dublin where we'd intended having a relaxed weekend visiting Jim Reynolds' Butterstream . But we got sucked into landscaping my brothers garden planting an apple, a pear and a Robinia, multiple lavenders and a thirty foot shrub bed. My nephew quick to talk and slow to help, said to his parents, before legging it to his girlfriends that "Jayzus, you're treating them like slaves."
Feet up in the departure lounge recovering from Saturday's labours flicking through The Garden I noticed there's a horticultural journalist called Merrriel Gardiner and it got me thinking. Bob Flowerdew is a regular on BBC's Gardeners' Question Time. In the early days Fred Loads (of muck?) was a panellist as was Clay Jones and Bill Sowerbutts (not what you want in a drought eh?). Jim Gardiner is RHS Wisley curator. Andrew Greenoak is a garden designer. Harry Acres and George Fields are farmers. My cousin Annette Curtin is - yes you've guessed - a blind maker.
